Camp Counselors Russia
Comrades! Work abroad in one of 55,000 summer camps in Russia! Are you looking for and adventurous work and travel experience? The Camp Counselors Russia program is looking for staff to work in a summer camp in Russia for four or eight weeks! This amazing experience includes a two-day orientation in Moscow with local Russian Valery.
Every summer thousands of children head off to summer camps across Russia, from the shores of Lake Baikal to the beaches of the Black Sea. Each camp has its own philosophy, but all provide children a place to relax while having fun in an outdoor setting. In many ways, these camps resemble the summer camp America experience. They are usually located in rural settings, miles away from the nearest town. Typically, a camp will have a large dining hall, crafts and sports buildings and dormitories. Children usually come for sessions lasting 10 to 28 days. Many camp activities take place in the beautiful Russian countryside, often by a lake or river, which provides a glorious setting for swimming, boating and canoeing. Other activities may include theater, land sports, arts, crafts, dance, performing arts and teaching.
We offer two positions in our Russia Program: Camp Counselor or English/American Culture Instructor. You receive free room and board throughout the program. These are considered volunteer positions because you are paid the same as your fellow Russian counselors, which may only work out to be a very small stipend. You may indicate at your interview if you would prefer one position over the other.
This program is the safest and most reliable way to experience Russia without being Russian! With the backing of the Russian government, the Camp Counselors Russia program is a fantastic way to experience Russia as a local and experience the real Russian culture!
CCUSA has partnered with the University of Georgia to offer an academic credit option for Field Studies in Recreation and Leisure for both under-graduate and graduate students. This program offers the opportunity for qualified candidates to participate in a 4-week study abroad program that examines the Russian camp tradition and youth development practices through field experiences, discussion, and student projects.
